Strabag
Solar Power & Remote CCTV
Amerat / Jaffnain Dam
Completed (February 2025)
Constructing critical national infrastructure requires rigorous security protocols to protect heavy machinery, raw materials, and on-site personnel. Strabag, a leading European technology group for construction services, was tasked with major developments at the Amerat / Jaffnain Dam. Due to the remote nature of the site, establishing a traditional, hardwired surveillance and security system was physically impossible. The client required an enterprise-grade security ecosystem that was completely autonomous and capable of operating in harsh, isolated environments.
The primary engineering challenge was the total absence of a local power grid or fiber-optic network backbone. Standard CCTV installations rely heavily on continuous municipal power and direct network cabling to transmit video data. To secure the Amerat Dam project, NexGen Solutions had to design and deploy a completely off-grid CCTV network. The system needed to generate its own power, store enough energy to run continuously through the night, and transmit high-definition video feeds securely across vast geographical distances to a centralized command center.
To overcome the geographical constraints, our engineering team engineered a ruggedized, solar-powered surveillance architecture. We deployed high-efficiency monocrystalline solar panels paired with deep-cycle Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) at every camera node. This ensured that the High-Definition (HD) IP cameras remained fully operational 24/7/365, regardless of weather conditions or grid availability.
For data transmission, our IT infrastructure specialists utilized long-range wireless backhaul technology and cellular data routing. Instead of laying kilometers of vulnerable fiber cables in a construction zone, we created a secure, encrypted wireless mesh that beamed the live video packets directly to Strabag’s headquarters, granting them real-time visibility over the entire dam perimeter.
Successfully completed in February 2025, the solar CCTV deployment granted Strabag total operational oversight of the Amerat / Jaffnain Dam project without relying on costly, polluting diesel generators. The off-grid system significantly reduced the client's carbon footprint while meeting the strict security standards required for national infrastructure projects. By bridging physical security with renewable energy technology, NexGen delivered a zero-downtime, sustainable surveillance network.
